Sterling Heights, MI (Thursday, August 27, 2020) - With no changes for the past few months to the Toledo/Lucas County Health Department directive of no fans at sporting events due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the outlook was grim for Toledo Speedway to receive approval to hold events with fans in attendance in 2020. That abruptly changed last week when the State of Ohio Department of Health issued a Director’s Order with specific guidelines to allow sports, including speedways, to hold events allowing 1,500 fans in attendance. This was exactly what Toledo Speedway officials were waiting for and immediately submitted a plan to the local health authorities, to conduct a limited number of events under the new guidelines.
Toledo Speedway received approval, and in a couple of weeks, race fans will be in attendance for the first time in 2020 at the Glass City oval. On Tuesday, the ARCA Racing Series announced the ARCA Menards 200 on Saturday, September 12th, to be held with fans in attendance at the ultra-fast ½ mile high banked oval. Spectator gates will open at 3 pm, with the green flag flying at 5 pm. The ARCA Menards Series held previous events this summer at the facility, but without fans. Since that announcement, race teams and fans alike have been waiting patiently for the remaining limited schedule for 2020 to be revealed.
Officials announced today that the 32nd Annual Central Transport Glass City 200 presented by Hampton Inn & Courtyard by Marriott, the staple event each season at the facility, will take place on Saturday, Sept 19th. The Glass City 200 consists of 100 lap feature events for the ARCA Outlaw Super Late Models and the ARCA /CRA Super Series Powered by Jegs. The Victory Custom Trailers CRA Jr Late Models will also be in action. Spectator gates also open at 3 pm, with a 5 pm start. A Sunday, September 20th (1 pm) rain date has been established, if needed.
Also announced to be part of the limited schedule is the Hemelgarn Racing/Super Fitness Rollie Beale Classic 100 on Sunday, October 4th. It will be the National Championship event for the USAC Silver Crown Series. A special addition to the event card will be four divisions of ARCA stock cars featuring local drivers. The ARCA Late Model Sportsman, ARCA Street Stock, ARCA Figure 8, and ARCA Factory Stock classes will all be in action. Spectator gates will open at Noon with a 2 pm start.
Tickets for each event will be $25 per person and will go on sale Tuesday, September 1st at 9 am. Tickets will only be available online at www.toledospeedway.com. Additional details for each specific event will be released in the coming days.
