Thirlby Captures 2019 AELMT Championship

Updated: Oct 13, 2019

Lake Odessa, MI (Saturday, October 12, 2019) - The 2019 season ended the same way it began for the American Ethanol Late Model Tour (AELMT), with Mother Nature intervening with the racing festivities. As a result of the cancellation of The Championship event from I-96 Speedway, Traverse City, Michigan's Brandon Thirlby was crowned the 2019 Champion.

Thirlby drove his way to the 2019 season championship in a similar fashion to his 2018 series Championship - with just one feature win. However, thanks to his consistency throughout the season, Thirlby was able to hold on to a slim points advantage over Travis Stemler into the final weekend.

The statistics for Thirlby this season reflect what it might take to win a Championship on the Tour, aside from the one feature win from Hartford Speedway. Thirlby compiled two Motul Motor Oil and Lubricant Fast Qualifier Awards, four podium finishes, and six top five finishes. Thirlby collected the Championship win by 26 points over Stemler.

When asked about the Championship, Thirlby reflected his thoughts in a way fans are used to, thanking his supporters,

"First and foremost, I’d like to thank my Dad, Ed Thirlby, and our 80 plus employees that allow me to do all of this. I can’t thank my guys enough, without them it wouldn’t be possible. Todd, Doug, and Jesse worked their ass off this year and it paid off. Also, all the support from my girlfriend Leah. Also Bill and Josie from Pro Power racing engines and everyone at Rocket Chassis."

Thirlby will receive his Championship Trophy and the $10,000 prize that goes with it during the American Ethanol Championship Awards Banquet on Saturday, December 7th from the new One Ethanol Plant in Lowell, MI.
