Sterling Heights, MI (Monday, July 27, 2020) - Despite a select number of tracks being open, a big weekend of racing was held across the state of Michigan. On the next episode of Horsepower Happenings, hosts Zach Hiser and Rich Frantz break it all down including the Tri-City/Merritt Speedway Late Model Challenge Series, Great Lakes Super Sprints and more. Plus, exclusive one-on-one interviews, Victory Lane Celebrations, and more. All that, and this week's featured guests, Brandon Thirlby and Steve Needles.
Just 19 days after breaking both of his wrists during an on track accident at Merritt Speedway, Thirlby announced he would climb back behind the wheel of his DIRTcar UMP Late Model for a full weekend of racing. His return brought him a 10th and 5th place finish during the Allstar Performance Challenge Series - a weekend where he hoped to just be able to race without pain or incident. We discuss how the weekend went from his perspective, and find out if he's fit to return to Victory Lane.
Also on the show, the winner of the only Outlaw Super Late Model show held in Michigan on Saturday, Steve Needles. The driver out of Saint Joseph, Michigan started 12th during the 9th Annual Ron Hauser Memorial and had the top spot with nearly half the race remaining. During the latest show, we'll discuss what it took for Needles to find Victory Lane and what it means to him having won his first race of the season.
