AELMT Crowns Champion Saturday at I-96 Speedway

Lake Odessa, MI (Thursday, October 10, 2019) - The American Ethanol Late Model Tour (AELMT) will wrap up the 2019 season with a virtual winner take all situation from Lake Odessa’s I-96 Speedway. While $4,000 is on the line to win the YellowHose.com 40, many are watching the battle for the $10,000 Season Championship between Traverse City’s Brandon Thirlby and Ionia’s Travis Stemler. The Championship action all takes place this Saturday, October 12th at I-96 Speedway.

Coming into the weekend, the AELMT Season Championship shows a 26 point gap, with defending Champion Thirlby, on top of the board. Former series Rookie of the Year, Stemler, is well within striking distance and has the hometown advantage.

Stemler resides just minutes away from I-96 Speedway, and has spent many years racing around the wide and fast Speedway. Stemler flexed his muscle in the AELMT’s last appearance during the Battle of Speed on June 28th, when he led the opening several laps before making contact with an inside track tire, sending him spinning off the third and fourth turn. Stemler struggled the remainder of the night, finishing 9th. His near success was matched with near disaster for Thirlby on that evening.

Thirlby’s night began with issues when he ripped the nose off his m14 machine during American Ethanol Qualifying. The Thirlby Automotive team just couldn’t seem to recover from those early issues, limping home to an 11th place finish. The culprit for Thirlby’s issues during the last event was a huge cushion created by the co-headlining Great Lakes Super Sprints (GLSS), who will also be in attendance this Saturday.

The GLSS Championship fight is over. Phil Gressman clinched the Title on August 30th at Tri-City Speedway, 110 points over championship rival Dustin Daggett. The GLSS is expected to bring a stout field of cars and stars for the 360 Sprint Showdown at I-96 Speedway. Also in attendance will be the newly dubbed Great Lakes Lightning Sprints (1,000cc Mini Sprints).

Tickets for this highly anticipated event can be purchased from the I-96 Speedway Box Office on race day, when gates open at 4:00pm. All seating is General Admission. Adult tickets are $20, Kids 6 to 12 years of age are only $5 and Kids 5 and under are FREE. All parking at I-96 Speedway is FREE and overnight stays are permitted anywhere in the grass parking lots. Hot Laps begin at 5:00pm and the first American Ethanol Green Flag flies at 6:30pm.
